Shelter Pet Adoption
Pet adoption has increased since 2009, despite adverse economic conditions. Currently, 27 percent of dogs and 33 percent of cats in American homes were adopted from a shelter or rescue group. However, 2.7 million healthy and treatable pets still need our help to find a home each year. Bringing that number all the way to zero is the goal of The Shelter Pet Project campaign, which encourages viewers to make shelters and rescue groups the first place they turn when acquiring companion animals. The PSAs encourage viewers to adopt from shelters by positioning shelter pets as the same amazing companions as other pets. The campaign encourages viewers to visit www.theshelterpetproject.org to learn more.
